The most exciting weekend of Pro/Am bicycle racing is coming to Atlanta on August 9-10, 2008.  The Dog Days of Summer Race Weekend in Atlanta, Georgia will be comprised of the Team Cycleworks p/b HDR Cherokee County Road Race and the Aaron’s/L5Flyers Cycling Team Grant Park Criterium.

On a weekend that started with the need for solid team cohesion, the Cat 4 squad delivered the goods. A win, is a win, is a win, right? Well, the Cat 4 team won the TTT by a one second margin, that's up two positions from an earlier season TTT. The squad, more specifically, Dan Klapheke, designated as their GC guy, was able to protect the omnium lead through the criterium and into the challenging road race. With only a 4 point omnium lead going into the road race, we marked our rival and he marked Dan. Going over the steep 2 mile climb the first time, Dan lost 2 omnium points to his rival sprinting for KOM points. Approaching the climb for the final time, the pace quite high, Dan saw his rival go out the back door. Dropped! Whew, right? Wrong! His rival, being somewhat larger than Dan, waited for a less steep portion of the climb to put in his final burst of energy. Caught off guard, Dan saw his rival place two positions ahead of him on the climb, making up those last two omnium points!! A tie, right? Wrong!! By virtue of the 1 second TTT victory on Saturday, Dan was declared the omnium champ!!!! Congratulations also goes to Michael Gordon who finished third for the weekend.

Team Cycleworks p/b HDR occupied all 3 steps of the Masters' 45+ podium at the State Criterium Championships on Saturday, June 21st. In a hard fought battle that saw several breaks swept up by the charging peloton, Doug Pomeranz got away for the 45+ victory with Brad Harper and Eric May sprinting in for the 2nd and 3rd positions. With Doug taking his 2nd State Championship Jersey this season, he's hoping to carry this inertia into the Masters' National Championships at Loisville, KY in July. Congratulations to all three of our Masters podium finishers!!!

Several members of NGCA took to the streets Tuesday 03/11 and “marched” to the state capital to demonstrate their commitment to cycling advocacy in the state of Georgia. Our organization had a strong showing and looked resplendent in our brand new kits as we made our contribution to the critical mass necessary to effect political and legislative change and enhance cyclist’s riding experience on public roads. We were met by several local mayors and Georgia’s Lt. Governor, Casey Cagle. It is the hope of all of us at NGCA that this rally will enliven the spirit of all cyclists hoping to become more active in protecting and enhancing the rights of cyclists. Thanks for the wonderful turnout!

After a rather lengthy process that began back in late October we have finalized the 2008 kit. Many, many huge thanks go to the design team for their Herculean effort to realize the original vision. We hope you’ll agree that a design was produced that is distinct, sharp and provides an excellent platform to display our sponsor’s support.  We look forward to delivery in the next several weeks, just in time for the start of the road racing calendar. Ellen Carroll worked diligently this fall to ensure that she had the proper form to stamp her authority on the women’s elite category of the GA Cyclocross Series. While making a very difficulty discipline look easy, she was incredibly consistent across the fall season representing her sponsors with grace, sportswomanship and class. Congratulations, Ellen!!!!

Our club started with 11 individuals and over the past six years we have grown to over 70 members. We have members from all walks of life and all cycling backgrounds. Yet we have one common goal, we want to enjoy the camaraderie of a club, stay fit, compete and grow the sport of cycling....

Lissy Cowdery raced in the Nationals Women's Time Trial and Criterium Championships in Seven Springs, PA, earning a top 10 Time Trial finish in her age group. She also raced well in the fast, 30k criterium.

The Classic has expanded to be a full omnium, with a time trial, road race, and criterium. 

The women of Team Cycleworks pb Lowe's Mortgage raised over $3000 for breast cancer research and competed in one of our favorite races, the Komen Central GA Cycle for the Cure.
