Team Cycleworks Women Raise Money and Race Hard at Cycle for the Cure
This event is top-notch, put on by an extremely organized and fun group of women. We were greeted with streamlined registration and a bag chock full o'goodies. The course follows part of the finishing circuit of the Tour de Georgia Stage One, an almost perfect rectangle in downtown Macon.
The racing was hot but the best part of the day was meeting breast cancer survivors and accepting the honor of Top Fundraising Team. Our own Lissy Cowdery was the top individual fundraiser with over $2000! Way to go, Lissy. Many of us have been touched by breast cancer in our families, and this was a tremendous way to honor those we know who have survived and those who have passed on. Our fellow team members were instrumental in helping us reach our goal. Thanks, guys and gals!
Racing in the Category 3/4 crit were Katie Head Reynolds (daughter of a breast cancer survivor), Lissy Cowdery, Kitty Wickes, and Lisa Mathews. A rider slipped off the front but the peloton saw lots of action from the Cycleworks women. Lissy and Lisa attacked the field while Kitty delivered an impressive lead-out in the sprint finish to garner 9th place and 10th for Katie. Lissy and Lisa still had the legs to get 12th and 13th.
The 1/2 crit line-up was indeed impressive. Tina Pic, Laura Van Gilder, Shannon Hutchinson-Krupat, and many other pro riders where there. Our Kris Keim, Lee Farabaugh, and Molly Freeman lined up as well. The crit was fast with lots of action off the front. Our women had a good race, especially considering the competition. Kris made a fantastic save after hopping a curb and came in 22nd. Lee finished 24th and Molly 30th. More information and photos courtesy of Trish Albert can be see at Cycling
